Lent #3: Go!

Grace and peace to you today!

Luke 10:1,9: “After this, The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. ‘The Harvest is plentiful but workers few. Ask the Lord of the Harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out…heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God has come near to you””

After the seeming rejection of those who would follow Jesus because of their excuses at the end of chapter 9, we discover at the beginning of chapter 10 that there are 72 disciples who are following Jesus. To keep this simple, it seems to me that Jesus gives them three commands:

Go to…every town and place. Go is the key word that comes up in this passage. While the “rejected ones” earlier wanted to stay where they were and get some of their own work done, Jesus tells these followers “Go!” It is imperative that we understand that we are about the work of Jesus. He is always sending us. Sending us to our families, our neighbors, our work places and wherever else we might be able to go. It is his call upon us to Go!

Go together! We also note that he send us two by two. Christian life is lived in community. We are in this together. We are never alone. Jesus wants us to share the joys and the sorrows, the growth and the struggles together.

Go Tell! “The Kingdom of God is near.” This is the revolutionary message that Jesus brought to the world. In him, the Kingdom has come. In him, God is made personal. In him, the new day has dawned. As we proclaim and live the Kingdom, it is brought to bear on the world around us and miraculous things happen. People repent. Miracles happen. Satan falls like lightening from heaven. (v. 18)

Every day we go into the world that is in need of the Kingdom of God. Every day at 10:02 am I pray for STORM Faith Community, that each one of us would be laborers in the harvest: going, together, to tell the good news and experiencing the power of God in our lives.

May you be blessed this Friday and throughout the weekend as God works His good work in you.
