Saturday, February 25. Lent #4
There is a blessing in the traditional wedding service that is one of Lisa’s favorites. It goes like this: “Send your blessing upon this couple that they may surely keep their marriage covenant and so grow in love and godliness together that their home may be a haven of blessing and a place of peace.”
When Jesus sent out the 72 to be engaged in ministry, one of the things that he told them to do when they entered a village was to find a house of peace. In Luke 10:5 we read: “When you enter a house, first say, ‘peace to this house.’ If the head of the house loves peace, your peace will rest on that house…stay there.”
I have been praying more regularly for peace. Our neighborhoods and churches and business places and organizations need peace so desperately. It seems to me that this is a critical leverage point where Christians could make a huge difference. How would our world change if we all became persons of peace? “Blessed are the peacemakers” Jesus said, “for they will be called children of God.”
I would like to encourage you during this lenten season to practice peacemaking. Become a person of peace. Make your home a safe place of peace that those who enter it might be blessed. That blessing will come right back to you in ways we can only imagine.
One of the things that I love about house church is that we gather each week in a place of peace. As we share our lives together in those places we are getting a glimpse of the Kingdom of Jesus…and becoming peacemakers ourselves.
God bless you richly in these days!
